Nelda Bailey- Texas A&M University's Student Conduct Services: Week Three

Hello Everyone,

I must admit that the month of June has flown. I have been so focused on my Summer I courses that I have not had the proper moment to actually rejoice in my excitement for this upcoming journey. With the chaos of June’s schedule ending this week, I will finally have the opportunity to focus solely on my practicum experience. As stated earlier, my director has allotted me autonomy in the lessons I learn and the areas I focus on. I look forward to using the remainder of this week to prioritize where I want to begin my practicum experience. Ultimately, I want to learn as much as possible, so I am not that concerned with where the journey ends if it ends. I am also eager to gain more insight about several departments at TAMU. I look forward to exploring myself as a professional and as a graduate student. The purpose of this practicum is to gain professional skills and to build my confidence as a Student Affairs practitioner, and I plan to fully exploit this purpose for my benefit. Likewise, I plan to use this opportunity to see if Student Conduct is a place for me as well as gain insight into other departments that might be interesting for me as a practitioner.

I am somewhat sad that I will not be spending my mother’s birthday with her, but I am also excited that I will use that day to acquaint myself with Texas A&M University’s campus. I cannot wait until July 8th comes, so that I can fully begin my experience. I’ll keep you posted!

  1. Nelda,

I think that it is really cool that you get the opportunity to work at a different institution for your practicum. I think that will really give you a diverse set of experiences whenever you decide to job search. I think that you will also have a great opportunity when it comes to making professional networking contacts, which will really create excellent opportunities for you whenever you job search. My challenge for you is to really get a grasp on Texas A & M's processes. This is probably going to require answering a lot of different questions, which just so happens to be a skills that you are really good at. I think by gaining a better understanding of Texas A & M's processes you can gain a better understanding of some things that we can do at Mississippi State that will improve our various departments.
