This week was great as I have been preparing for my practicum in July. I was really able to think about what I wanted to accomplish during my time at the Career Center. I collaborated with my supervisor as to what goals I could actually accomplish during my limited time and created a Practicum Learning Contract. Here are a few of my goals:
- During my Career and Placement course in the spring I was able to take several assessments one might take for career counseling. However, there are so many more that I have not heard of! One in particular is StrengthsQuest. I will be taking this assessment for myself and to have more knowledge when I sit on initial and follow-up sessions with students.
- During the month of July at UA orientation will be taking place (BAMA Bound) and I will have the opportunity to observe the workshops being held and also co-present at several workshops with undergraduate and prospective students. I am really looking forward to this!
- Career Fairs on campus are an important component for students' future career success. So, I will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare and plan for a career fair and also participate in the design and creation of recruiting for the career fairs.
I do have one last goal I will be accomplishing in July as well as personal goals for myself. I will be sharing more information about those in my next post.

Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteI think that it is really exciting that you are getting so much time to prepare. I can already tell that you are going to have an amazing practicum experience. Additionally, I find it interesting that you are going to be applying some of your skills from classes this past spring, especially career. I think that I am always reluctant about how much of class I am actually going to use, however, I am always surprised when I do actually get to use things from class. A teaching and presenting experience also sounds like a really exciting part of practicum. I haven't gotten the opportunity to do this yet, but hopefully I will soon.
