Activities:
- Executed moving staff members into new offices
- Finalized certificates of completion for students
- Worked with the University Television Center to have DVD's for the ACCESS program
Experience:
This week was a short week for me, and I am somewhat relieved. June was an intense month to say the least. I took the last 2 days off to recharge my batteries so to speak. With 3 classes, my assistantship, and this practicum I was getting overwhelmed. I really resonated with the reading when the book was talking about burnout. I think I did a pretty good job in balancing work, school, and practicum, but I know some areas in which I could make improvement.
I was a little sad this week that all the orientations are now over. I really enjoyed getting to work with other departments, and I especially enjoyed the academic advising side of it. However, I did get a lot done this week and moved on to some new projects. For one thing, I assisted the office in moving some of the staff members to different offices. I also got to check out the University Television Center over in the Wise center.
Bryan mentioned "office talk" last week. I resonate with this as well. I feel like the Student Support Services office has really accepted me into their family, and they include me in their "office talk". It's really nice to know that my opinion is wanted and I'm respected as a part of the daily functioning of that office.
Brent,
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, congratulations on making it through the month of June. I really appreciate your sharing your experiences within the office. I would
have to say that I can definitely relate to your feelings of "office talk" within the office. It’s great to feel as though your input is valued in and out of a professional setting.
With the Student Support Services office treating you as family, how do you not take advantage of that as a professional? Does the atmosphere in this office feel as though it may be the right fit for your desired career? What are some possible role conflicts that could occur from working in an office similar to this?
