I'm writing you from a hotel room in Lake City, Florida, which is approximately 3 hours from Saint Leo University. I have been through a great deal to get this far, so I can sleep easy tonight knowing I will be at Saint Leo tomorrow afternoon.
Although I have not benefited directly from my practicum at Saint Leo University, I have gained valuable experience through my preparations leading up to my arrival on Saint Leo's campus. One particular instance I'll share through this blog occurred this past Friday.
Previously, I had called my on-site supervisor multiple times to finalize my practicum experience and to get answers to my last minute questions. Whether I contacted my supervisor by email or phone, I received no reply or no return call. This, needless to say, became frustrating. I had to determine how to handle this situation, so I did. Simply put, it took me putting my foot down and bluntly yet politely expressing my concern of not having answers or finalized plans pertaining to my practicum. After my concerns and questions were voiced, my on-site supervisor's assistant gathered the replies and together we finalized the last minute details of my practicum. If this hadn't have happened, I never would have learned how to handle this particular situation. I hope more of these instances occur, so I can continue to learn valuable lessons such as this one.
P.S. Below is my first of many video updates. Enjoy!

Hey John - I'm glad you made it! What a headache, though... I'm glad you guys finally have a plan in the works. Maybe you won't have to go through anything quite like this to learn more about problem communications - ha! At least you know that YOU have done your part, and it's good that you were able to hook up with another colleague.
ReplyDeleteWe miss you in class today! Hope to hear from you soon. Lyle
