This past Wednesday, I spent most of my hours at my practicum plugging and chugging the numbers and comments from the Orientation evaluations. This was quite the process, going through and tallying everybody's responses, then inputting the results in an excel spreadsheet. I'm kind of a nerd and enjoy things like this sometimes so it was pretty fun. Overall, the majority of the evaluations were very positive. This was a bit surprising considering the change of responsibilities, as Orientation duties just switched over from Student Life to Admissions. It also makes sense due to the fact that this was the last Orientation session, which typically becomes a well-oiled machine and all the kinks get worked out in the first couple sessions.
Y'all may be tired of me talking about the differences between large and small universities, but at the smaller university, professionals are expected to do much more. What I mean by this is that the tallying of these evaluations was previously done by the Associate Direcotr in Admissions. At a larger institution, I'm positive that a person in that position would not have tallied all of those evaluations. They would definitely view the results and decide upon any changes.
After completing these evaluations, my responsibilities with Admissions has ended. I may need work with them in the future as I begin planning for Welcome Week, but for now I will spending my time in Student Life.
On a separate note, the first summer session of classes is over! Congrats to my cohort for surviving through a stressful month! We're almost there!
