Barauskas - Week 5 - Home!

Hey Everyone! I made it back to Starkville safely, and we have just finished our first day of RD training. I can already tell it's going to be difficult to split my time between my job responsibilities and my responsibilities at MUW. I'm sure I'll have more to discuss on that at a later date. I got back to Starkville just in time for a Welcome BBQ at our Associate Director's house. I literally set my bags in my apartment and then was out the door. Anyway, let's get to some pictures that I took from my trip back home!

The Niagara River

These first few pictures are of my favorite spot from back home, the Niagara Gorge and River. It's about a 5 minute walk from my house, and there are around 300 steps to get from the top to bottom, and then back up. I spend most of my time running along the upper trail, but every now and then I will hike down into the Gorge. And I mean hike, the steps are man-made but none of them are even and it can be dangerous in certain spots. The picture to the left is of the Niagara River, taken from the bottom of the Gorge, and right across the way is Canada.

This is a picture of my drive to Endicott, NY, where Brittney lives. NY has some beautiful scenery with all of the rivers and the Appalachian Mountains.

Next up is a picture of my parents' house! You can see my mom sitting there in the background, and the basketball hoop where I hone my skills...not really. It's not a large house by any means. Ranch-style, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. It's very open, with the dining room, living room, and sun room all connected.
And I, of course, made sure to stop by Duff's for the best hot wings I've ever had! My sister and I shared a number 1, which is 20 wings, with a side of french fries and a small pitcher of pop. The side of gravy, to dip the fries in, was extra, but worth it! Also that's bleu cheese with the chicken wings, which is what is normally served with them, as opposed to ranch, which you get in the south. I'm not saying I prefer one or the other, just letting you know!

I had a great trip home. Spent lots of time with my family, and it has definitely rejuvenated me for the upcoming semester, and our final year!

  3. Jason,

Thanks for sharing with us -- a bit of Barauskas culture. Jason brings up something important that we discussed last week. Finding the balance. Recognizing when we need to "get off the treadmill" for a minute and take a breath. I've "watched" many of you do this during the summer. Whether it is Tennessee with friends, New York with family, or family vacations I am impressed that you are learning how to find time for what is important in life. Welcome back JB!
