I just realized that I'm not 100% on what week it is, really. Is it 6 now? Still 5? Haha I'm not sure.
This week has been an especially busy one for me with school work and work-work. On Wednesday, I had a really nice opportunity to put into action some of the things we read about for class this past Tuesday - making connections. Regarding some work I'm doing for my future internship requirements, I went with Dr. Heiselt on Wednesday to the University of Alabama to meet with a colleague there. We picked up an MUW colleague along the way, and, on our trip to Tuscaloosa, I actually made some pretty nice strides toward defining exactly of what my internship may entail this fall. Meeting Jess (Reggie and Jason, I believe you know her... :) ) was a really great opportunity to talk with a colleague in the field, to learn some of the things that encompass her day-to-day, and to make a connection that not only will benefit me scholastically but professionally and personally.
I could have stayed home. I could have chosen not to make the time and work sacrifice to make this trip. I'm glad for a number of reasons that I did make the trip, but I'm especially glad because I got to make this connection with Jess and with our UA colleague, as well. Learning about some aspects of ways a student affairs professional operates in her chosen field is something we just don't get to know until we take these kinds of opportunities. You guys are getting to see these things first-hand, as well, in your practicum work, and I am most certainly benefiting from my work with Dr. Justice, but this was just a different situation in a first-hand atmosphere that I don't get to experience weekly. So, it was cool. :)
Hope you're all having good weekends. Speaking of... Carrie, JM, John... what are you guys doing on your weekends in NY, UT, and FL?
