Greetings from The University of Alabama!
It is hard to believe that this experience is coming to a close! This summer has sure flown by! I am about to start my last few days at the University of Alabama. I am so thankful for the great people that have helped to make this experience what it has been. However, my time here is not yet over! I still have a few busy days ahead of me!
Activities:
Attended staff meetings
Toured housing facilities in order to assess space
Met with the Director of UA Early College
Met with conduct officers to discuss conduct philosophy
Last week was a great week! As you can see from my activities I was able to learn even more about both UA and Housing and Residential Communities. I am continually amazed at how similar BUT different MSU is from UA. There are so many similarities due to size; however, the campus culture seems to be much different. I have greatly enjoyed my experiences at UA. This week I was able to meet with Dr. Cheree H. Causey who serves as the Director of UA's Early College. Early College is very similar to the Early Start Program that I have been a part of as my assistantship. Early College has a distance education component that Early Start does not have. I was so pleased and excited to see that Dr. Causey has a background in Student Affairs. With over 25 year of experience in both the Dean of Students' Office and the VP's Office, it was refreshing to see a great example of how Student Affairs and Academic Affairs can partner together on university wide initiatives.
It is hard to believe that it is already July 22nd. This experience - and summer - has flown by. It has definitely made me ponder what things will be like in a short ten months. For me, I am very excited. I have enjoyed my time at UA. The opportunity to learn about a new campus and meet new people has been very exciting. I can't wait to see what is next!
Godspeed -
Thomas S.
Thomas, your experience sounds wonderful. I am happy that you are experiencing life at a different campus. I liked that you were able to draw parallels and identify differences between MSU and UA. A short ten months it will be indeed, have you considered entering the world of housing as a professional?
