July has really flown by so far. It has been really great working in the CSA and with Early Start. My favorite part of the program so far was move in day. I loved seeing the students excited to be on-campus and the parents overjoyed with the amount of volunteers on hand to ease the move in process.
Since the students arrived the program has been doing pretty well. There's total of 72 enrolled, however at the planned events there are a consistent 20-30 student participants. I really enjoy getting to know them and answer questions they may have about an event, a class, or the campus, I feel like a big sister expert and love being a resource to these young students who are trying to soak it all in.
For me this experience has been really really enjoyable so far because the knowledge and privileges associated with my GA are beneficial for practicum site drawing parallels it is great being a resource on the housing department for the rest of the people in the CSA office. Also, I am having a wonderful time seeing the relationship between student and academic affairs in practice. I believe the students that are participating consistently are doing so because they are enjoying there experience(s) and that while I am aware that this program will be continued for next year that it will be essential to gain feed back from these participants about what was attractive to them and/or in what ways the program can be modified for the incoming class.
This month so far I worked on an assessment for the CSA as well as a resource wall and binder for the student leaders in the office. I have learned a great deal so far about the Student Association at MSU and their relationship with the CSA. I am really excited about what the rest of the month will bring :D
