Clark-Week 1- Student Engagement, USC

Office of Student Engagement - University of South Carolina

Activities:
  • Creating and revising Learning Contract with supervisor, Kim. This interaction really allowed me to see what I will be doing in their office and ways that I can meet my goals and become engaged prior to my arrival.
  • Researching the website
  • Talking to Kim via email and telephone
Reflection:
This summer has already been such an exciting/scary one! Since I am not physically in South Carolina yet, I have been in communication with my supervisor Kim a lot through email and telephone. I have already learned about the Office of Student Engagement via my supervisor, their website (http://www.housing.sc.edu/studentengagement/) if anyone wants to check out where I will be, and through my Learning Contract. I already know that I am extremely lucky with my site. I emailed Kim my Learning Contract on Friday for her to look over. She emailed it back to me and made some changes and explained to me how I could achieve my learning outcomes in their office and items I can go ahead and begin to think about. As we talked about in class, this is a way that I can feel connected, but it does make me nervous and excited to move their and really be able to dive in! I am also excited to see our cohort grow separately. We are each so unique and have our own sets of talents that drive us to be successful in this field. I am anxious to watch each of us really bloom over the summer in our different areas of interest!

  1. Avent,

I love that you put this entire experience together by following your heart and your passion. That is what it takes to be a great professional. As you guessed, although you are not yet at USC, there is still much for you to learn. Continue to research and to explore what you can online. Ask Kim what you can do now to prepare for your arrival in the weeks to come. This is going to be an amazing experience!

    Best,
    Dr. H

  2. Avent,

You are right to say that we are each unique and talented. I have been encouraged by you and our cohort for our passion and determination to be successful and help others along the way. We are gradually preparing to go our separate ways and impact students and campuses worldwide. Though nervousness is present, the skills and knowledge we have attended and will continue to gain will help prepare us in this journey.

    Be encouraged,
    Ashley Newsome
