Holtzman-week one: Student Activities

Hello all,

Activities:
-plugged information into an excel file, updating events roster from the 2011-2012 school year.  This document includes the date, the event, the number of people attended, and weather or not it was a ticketed event or not for the purpose of an office assessment.
-Labeled fans for orientation giveaways
-Stuffed the Office of Student Activities keychains/card pouches with info sheets for orientation giveaways.

Reflection:
These activities were great for me to feel apart of the working team in the Student Activities Office.  I enjoyed looking through the assessment because it gave me great understanding of the caliber of events put on by this office.  Stuffing and labeling the giveaways were also also a great project because I felt like I was contributing to the mission of (re)branding and marketing the Student Activities Office since its recent name change. I realized that through these activities it is the little things that contribute to big picture success. As a future practitioner, I will remember that your level of accomplishments do not define and guarantee respect. I believe it is the ability in which you are able to relate and work side by side with every level. As a Hall Director, I never ask anyone do to do something that
1. I have not or would not do, and
2. things that they have not seen me do.
I feel that getting respect as a practitioner and a boss comes with your ability to relate and work on the front line.  I feel that Jackie Mullen does a really great job of working along side her students and I am eager to learn from her.

  1. Kimone,

You've made a great choice in your practicum experience. I think you are really going to get a chance to see a unique side of Student Affairs and MSU! Indeed, not all supervisors are alike. Some truly want to separate themselves and others like to dig in with both hands. This is a time for you to reflect on the type of supervisor you want to be. Continue to stretch yourself and try something new. I look forward to learning more!
