This week began Freshman Orientation sessions. This week really emphasized how flexible you have to be. Since the orientation format is new this year, it has gone through some trial and errors with what works and doesn't work. I was also surprised with how much I was learning in the outbreak sessions, but if you hear the same things so many times, eventually they sink in, right? I was also amazingly impressed by the Greek men and women who show up everyday and talk about their programs. I can tell how passionate they are and how much they want to share their passion with the new incoming students. I can tell that Heidie and Cedric have really empowered these students to own their work and make decisions. It makes me think back to my undergraduate experience and wonder if I was this passionate, and indeed I was, just in a different organization.
As a side note, but not really, my name tag came in this week, and I was so excited about it. It's the little things in life that count, and I have to say, it really made my day. I felt official, and being official Wednesday night at orientation, I was asked my first official questions. Some I could answer and others I could not, but it was a great opportunity for me to find the answers, and gain deeper understanding of the whole recruitment process at Mississippi State for the Panhellenic sororities.
I look forward to what next week will teach me.
