Activities:
- I contacted my site supervisor to discuss expectations of my practicum experience.
- Started reviewing FGCU Campus Recreation website to familiarize myself with the department.
Reflection:
The journey begins here. I have been experiencing so many emotions as I prepare for the practicum experience. As I mentioned in class, this will be my first time going away by myself EVER. In less than a month I will be embarking on an incredible opportunity that will give me my first real experience as a Student Affairs professional. After my meeting with my site supervisor, Suzanne Ries, I realized that my July will be filled with lots of planning, implementing, and learning experiences. I was given a quick run-down of all the things that I will be involved in and also a list of expectations from Suzanne. Suzanne and I have previously worked together during my time at MUW, so HIGH expectations have already been set for me. I am ready for the challenge and looking forward to the new atmosphere. I will be working with the coordinator of special events to prepare for orientation activities hosted at the Rec Center along with a list of other smaller tasks. I am excited, nervous and anxious all at the same time!!
One of my goals for this practicum is to gain some experience working in a multicultural environment. My supervisor assured me that this would definitely be something that would occur during this time. Because Florida is so culturally diverse, I will have the opportunity to work with and serve students from various backgrounds. I'm ready for new experiences and to venture out of my comfort zone. I can not wait to dig in!!

LeAnn
LeAnn,
ReplyDeleteI love the way this practicum came together. You had so many unique options and this one just came at the right time and the right space. I look forward to learning more about what you are going to do this summer and all the learning experiences you are going to have. Leaving the known may indeed be frightening for a while, but sooner than you might expect, you'll be feeling like the professional and it will be time to go. You can do this! And we'll all be here cheering you on!
Best,
Dr. H
