Experience
This week I continued to assist students as they called,
emailed, and visited the University Academic Advising Center. So many unique
situations come through the advising center. I have not been able to completely
duplicate how I assist students because each situation is very unique. I have
learned, and continue to learn, how important it is to have at least one person
that can serve as a mentor/question answerer. In the UAAC, I have been able to
find several of these people, and I turn to them often.
One ethical lesson that I am working through is in regards
to student achievement. When students come to the UAAC who are struggling
academically, I feel obligated to advise them according to what is best for
them. A large part of me knows that MSU may not be best for them. It may be
best that they complete their core classes at a smaller setting. I have been
learning how the advisors at the UAAC handle these situations, and I am
figuring out how I will handle these situations in my own way.
