Reflection:
This past week, I learned that students need just a little push for themselves when it comes to making a decision about their career. These personality and inventory assessments I gave this week really helped me see that students love to see where they fit in life. Their career is just one piece of the puzzle known as life; however it is a humungous piece of the puzzle. I discovered that even if I do not know the answer to a question, I know how to answer it to the best of my ability or showing a student resources in order to find the answer. Even though I have only been at the Career Center for the summer and only seen two Strong Inventory Assessments conducted, I feel like I did a pretty good job. I even asked the student after I was done discussing his results with him how I did. He replied telling me I did a great job. I then said good because it was my first time conducting one by myself. I was shocked at how well I did. I also know now that I belong in career counseling. I know the ins and outs of career development and also acquiring the utility belt materials in order to be successful in one's professional life.
I am glad to be done with Orientation sessions, but I will miss getting to interact with students looking to make their college experience something tremendously positive. I got a lot out of my undergraduate experience and I want to see other students get that same experience, if not more of an experience. I am here in student affairs to help students reach their potential and I believe I will best serve this goal/ passion in the area of Career Services at an institution of higher education.
