Activities
-Finished all research on SEC Student Organization Handbooks to understand
Non-Discrimination policies
-Had a meeting with Sharon Heulitt concerning artwork and trade marking of
the university
-Had a meeting with Brandon Jolly to describe how General Counsel works with
other universities work with the SEC.
Surprised is the biggest emotion that I felt today throughout my
Practicum. I did not realize that every
object that had Mississippi State on it, had to go through the Office of
General Counsel. Throughout the last two
weeks, they were having over 150 requests a day for different materials. The process starts with manufactures sending
a request for a clothing item that has Mississippi State on it. The manufactures are responsible are using a
certain type of maroon, and if a logo is used, they have to used the trademarked
logo. I had no idea that the General
Counsel was working in that type of university business.
I was also debriefed on some community engagement initiatives that the
university and the Office of General Counsel partake in. In July the department is hosting an
appreciation dinner for all of the vendors that utilize Mississippi State
products. These vendors are ones like
The Lodge, George Sherman, Wal-Mart, and CVS Pharmacy. This is a way for the Office of General
Counsel to work against that intimidation factor, that they presume. I also had no idea that there was any
community engagement linked with the Office of General Counsel, and it is
refreshing.
My goal is to work the rest of my career in a college town. I enjoy being in a smaller area, and I enjoy
the atmosphere of a college town.
Community Engagement, and all of the processes within it will be very
beneficial for me to learn, at all levels.
Though this is a rather small event, the importance of the dual
relationships is huge for the University and the vendors within
Starkville. I never thought I would gain this experience, and am appreciative
of it.
That's pretty interesting that the color of maroon has be looked over. I never thought about different businesses having to go through general counsel. You sure are being expose to some interesting things that many of us will not get to experience. Looking forward to hear more!
