The Veterans' Certificate Program is
something I am extremely proud of here at Mississippi State. This program is an
upcoming program designed toward educating post-secondary employees in
servicing veterans. It clearly illustrates why, when sitting at the computer in
the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans, I am surrounded by
awards stating Mississippi State University is a military friendly school.
Finishing the Green Zone Training
presentation is my biggest accomplishment to date in my practicum. Being able
to learn enough about what the Center does and then bring that awareness to
other is important. I am thankful to have this opportunity to highlight how
progressive Mississippi State is in this realm. I also want to inspire others
to have a passion for helping this student group. Thursday is the first
presentation. I will be presenting with two veterans and one vocational
rehabilitation practicum student since the entire G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery
Center for America’s Veterans staff will be in Jackson.
Grant
and funding research is a new experience for me. I met with Ken last week to
discuss resources I could utilize in order to successfully venture into this
arena. Ken had two people to recommend; he is contacting them to see if we can
set up a meeting. I am beyond excited and nervous about this. Grant writing is
a necessary skill given today’s culture of budget cuts. To gain this experience
while a student is fantastic. I would love to leave my mark on the Center by
earning funds. What better way to show my support of this emerging Student
Affairs department, to say thank you to the veterans and service members for
their service, and to say thank you to the staff of the G. V. “Sonny”
Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans for this wonderful experience. I only
hope I can be successful in this endeavor.
Now that ResLife Training has
started I feel sad that I am not getting to spend as much time at practicum.
This surprised me a little bit. However, it is great that I get to involved my
practicum in my job and vice versa!
Green Zone Training is a totally new concept for me. I hope you can fill me in on what it is and how to become certified sometime. It is amazing to see how military-friendly MSU really has always been. The awards are a great reminder of that.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on Thursday's presentation!
