Reflection:
My first week at the Center for Student Activities has been a blast. The people I have met within the CSA so far have been amazing. Everyone seems to be excited about their positions within CSA and have been open in regards to my learning. After touring the CSA, I found out the CSA hosts more student groups then I had visualized. For example, the offices for the Student Association and Music Makers are located within the CSA. Also, several cubicles have been made available for various student groups on a first come basis. The only downfall to the CSA is that isn't utilized as much in the summer compared to the fall.
The main focus for my practicum will be with the College Ready Program which consists of both Early Start and Math Plus. Early Start is a program designed to help incoming freshman get ahead in classes and to experience college life. These students live on-campus while taking college classes. Math Plus is a program designed to allow incoming freshman who scored low in math to take intermediate algebra prior to attending college in the fall. In regards the college experience, the CSA, in collaboration with other departments, program for these students.
I expect
the CSA to be a fun working and learning environment. I have no true fears of
the practicum and look forward to working with special programs such as Early
Start and Math Plus, or the College Ready Program. I will also get experience
in working with programs such as Difference of One, a newer concept that would
be beneficial to most universities.
Jerry,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you are enjoying your time in the Center for Student Activities! I think that you have the opportunity to learn so much about not only student organizations, but also the importance of getting students involved.
Working with Early Start and Math Plus programming will be an awesome experience for you! This is a new idea that a lot of institutions are beginning to try out, so I think it will be extremely beneficial for you to have the knowledge that you will acquire working with these programs when you begin looking for a job. Since our Early Start and Math Plus students will be staying in Oak Hall on campus, I think that this could also be beneficial for you especially if you are considering a job in Housing and Residence Life.
I'm looking forward to working with you this summer with Early Start and Math Plus, and probably some with the Center for Student Activities too!
