Treptow – Week 4/5 – Environmental Collaborative Office

The busy life continues as I had a conference in Birmingham last Friday, the game and my birthday Saturday and driving back Sunday!  I also went home to Minnesota this weekend to see my family and friends and got in a wedding too!

I feel like things have really picked up and slowed down as well!  Unfortunately a green roof on a residence hall will not happen, at least for a few years, but we’re not giving up and finding another location!  Housing also announced the architect for the new Aiken apartments last week and Fred Mock has mentioned allowing me to meet with them to talk about sustainability issues.  It’s always great to have the opportunity to work with both of my interests and I really hope that this meeting happens!

The brighter side of my last two weeks was that I had a few meetings with Jeremiah, Fred and our custodial supervisors. It really feels like we have set up a process for recycling in the res halls finally.  The big thing now will be to focus on educating students, which I’m actually really excited about!  I’ve also been looking into sustainability issues on campus in general, just to have some insight.

GO DAWGS!

  1. I’m really glad you were able to take some time away from work to visit with friends and family. It’s really unfortunate about the green roof, what reasons did they have for not considering it? The process of recycling in the residence hall has been a long and confusing process. I’m excited that housing is creating a better solution. Recycling on a college campus is important considering the amount of stuff that goes to waste.
I can’t wait to hear the plans for Aiken that should be interesting. I am concerned that the building will not be up by fall 2012 (I think everyone is lol). What ideas do you have for sustainability in Aiken? I don’t know much about sustainability as far as architecture goes.
I think if you do present at SEAHO presenting on sustainability in the res halls would be a great presentation. Maintaining sustainable in res. halls is an important task that’s often neglected. But it’s just a thought.
I look forward to hearing about the plans for Aiken I know you have tons.
    Have a great weekend
    Gretchen
