Treptow – Week 8 – Environmental Collaborative Office

The results are in!!  After much waiting the results of the Energy Wars for September are in.

It's great to see results of all of the work that's been put in.  Now we are pushing to make this initiative more widely known and get students really involved. Since Jeremiah is gone all of this week, a lot of my time will be spent working with the 2 student groups, Students for a Sustainable Campus and Community Service and Sustainability, on coming up with a strategy and implementing it.  I've been looking at what other SEC schools are doing and hope to use some of the information for my presentation  in November at MAHO.

  1. Yay!!! Everything looks great!!! I can’t really see the charts. Can you explain the negative numbers? I’m curious about Cresswell I see we have -9% what does that mean? Are you all going to present this to Dr. Bailey and Bill Boyles? It would be interesting to get their point of view. If you have higher administration on your side more things are likely to change.
Now that you have results do you all plan to go in the residence halls and promote sustainability? If not I think it would be a great idea to reach out to RDs and then RAs. Once you have everyone on board you then can promote to residences and decrease percentages.
Also I was helping with the Miss MSU pageant yesterday and one of the platforms was reduce, reuse, and recycle. I think it would be a great idea to team up with who every wins next week to help promote recycling across campus.
Overall I’m impressed we did this at my undergrad and we got a lot of responses. Some of the RAs teamed up with are Fashion Design and Textile group and put on a Fashion show only using Recycled goods. The Fashion show was just another way to get student involved and aware. We also had representatives from Tide Detergent “Loads of Hope” come out. As you know when you buy Tide products the top always says something in regards to recycling. Every time you recycle Tide you provide 1$ to families who suffered a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, victims of Tornados ect. Brining them to campus would also help promote sustainability and would be a great program for this group to host. I have pictures from the Fashion Show and more ideas if you need any help.
    See you tomorrow

  2. Amelia,

This is great data. I am looking forward to how you and your student groups decide to disseminate this information. It sounds like you are really getting a variety of experiences in your Practicum. I like that you are given a lot of autonomy and that you have run with it. Keep using that initiative. This is what makes the difference between a "good" and a "great" professional. Great job!
